Preview of CT 2025-26 Indoor T&F Season - Boys Field EventsPublished by
By Senior Correspondent Marty Ogden, Editing and Graphics by Ron Knapp As we begin our 26th year of CT Indoor T&F coverage that includes news, photos, results and records of our state athletes and teams, MySportsResults kicks off the 2025-2026 Indoor Track & Field season with our previews. We will once again take out our crystal ball to predict which individuals will make a difference for their teams as they work towards qualifying for the Class and Open Championships in February. In our next preview MySportsResults will do our best to highlight some of the top returnees from last year in the boys field events. The boys return only two of the eleven individual champions from 2025 so we could obviously see some new names at the top of the podium. But with the depth of talent in the state, someone is always ready to step up and shine.

Lyman Hall won the State Open last year with a large contribution from the Rich brothers, Ethan and Aaron. The pair, along with their older brother Owen were coached by their father in the spring to a Class L championship in baseball last spring. Ethan was Class L champion in the high jump and saved his best jump of the year (6-8.0) to achieve a State Open championship in the event. He also earned All New England in the event and scored in the long jump in the Class M championships and was part of the Class M winning 4x400m relay. His brother Aaron grabbed the bronze medal in the high jump at the Open and also earned All New England with a 6th place finish. He was a tad better than Ethan in the long jump, taking 4th in both the State Open and New Englands with a PR of 23-0.0. Aaron was also a member of the Trojans state record and All American sprint medley relay at New Balance Nationals Indoors (3:26.53) and their 4x400m that ran the 2nd fastest time in state history (3:20.37). The brothers have both been active in summer track competitions and have also already competed at Armory Preseason Challenge so you know the boys are coming into the season ready to go. The competition in the shot put was absolutely crazy last year with three boys over 60 feet and one All American. But those boys have moved onto the college ranks leaving behind rising star Liam Sweeney of Bacon Academy. Now a senior, the Bobcat was 4th at the State Open with a PR of 57-6.25 and just missed finals at New Englands with a 9th place finish. He was also the Class S runner-up the week before. During the spring campaign, he was the Class M champion in the shot put and followed that up with a 6th place finish at the State Open to qualify for New Englands. He also found great success in the discus where he was Class Class M runner-up and 7th at the State Open. Bloomfield has been known to have great success in the throwing event and the next big star just might be Khile Francis. The shot put is usually senior heavy as it takes years to develop the strength and technique to achieve success at a high level. Francis already had six years of experience in the throws before he ever put on a Bloomfield uniform in 9th grade. He made his presence felt in that first year, scoring in the Class S championships, a rare accomplishment for a freshman. Last winter he qualified for New Englands for the first time with his 6th place finish at the Open; one of only two returners. He set his PR of 54-11.25 to become the Class S champion. Outdoors he also excelled in the hammer throw where he threw 207-2, #4 All Time in CT history. He was also 2nd at the CIAC hammer throw, 5th at the State Open in the discus and was Class S champion in the shot put. Brodie Scott of Waterford cleared 6-4 in the high jump six times last winter, but unfortunately he was a little off at the State Open where he finished 9th. His best of 6-6.25 was the 3rd best last winter. But during outdoor track, he went on a tear and swept all the championships including the State Open and New Englands. He went over 6-6.0 five times with a best of 6-8.0. It seemed like every week last year, Lyme Old Lyme had someone breaking a school record. When sophomore Patrick Lynch won the East Coast Invitational, he established his school record of 23-2.5 which is also the 22nd best jump in CT history. He was also Class S champion and 3rd at the State Open, which makes him the top returner. He also showed off his speed, placing at Class S in the 55m. Outdoors, he went undefeated in all of his long jump competitions, including his Class S championship before fouling at the State Open. Now a junior, he still has two more years to pad his resume and move up into the CT’s historical elite. Last winter, there were only two seniors scorers in the State Open which means this year there are plenty of returners with high levels of experience. Bunnell’s Ryan Gonzalez was 2nd at the State Open last winter and was the Class L champion. His best of 14-6 was only a quarter of an inch off the state lead. During outdoor track, he repeated as Class L champion and took 6th at the State Open to qualify for New Englands where he finished 11th. He was able to clear 14 feet four times last spring with a best of 15-0 at a dual meet. Daniel Hand’s Sean Arms has become a pole vault specialist and that focus has led to some tremendous improvements. Last indoor track season he went over 14 feet five times with a best of 14-6. He was 4th at the Open and 3rd in the Class M championships. By the spring time he reached another level, clearing 15 feet to win the State Open and also earning All New England with a 5th place finish at the regional meet. He has kept working in the off season and at the Early Bird Elite Meet right before Thanksgiving, he cleared a PR of 15-4.5. Big things should be coming in the vault this year. Arms has announced he will attend Sacred Heart University next fall.
