North Haven Hall of Fame coach Steve Celmer passed away on September 29th, 2025 at the age of 69 years old. A 1974 graduate of North Haven High School where he played football, baseball, ran track, hurdles and was a high jumper; he later earned a bachelor's degree from the former Southern Connecticut State College. Steve retired from teaching at Platt Technical High School, Milford and during which time he also enjoyed coaching at North Haven High School as an assistant football coach, head cross country coach, head indoor coach and later was the head coach for the boy’s outdoor track for over 30 years. Steve participated in the Nutmeg Games where he won numerous gold and silver medals.

"Coach Celmer was a dedicated mentor who profoundly impacted his athletes, both on and off the field," North Haven Athletics posted on Facebook on Wednesday night. "His focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth shaped many young lives. "He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his athletes and the positive influence he had on their lives,"

Ellis Gill, the current Lauralton Hall coach competed for Coach Celmer in high school and began his coaching career alongside him at North Haven after college. “He could be tough, but loved the team and program more than anything.  As I transitioned into a coaching role with him and no longer being his athlete, I really saw a different side to him. He was so passionate about the sport and his team, he did everything he could to put them in the best position to succeed. The man always had a story, or a comical tidbit to add to any conversation.  I would not be a three season head coach without his help and support when I was just starting my career out.”

MySportsResults extends its deepest condolences to the Celmer family, as well as to his former colleagues and the many athletes he coached throughout his remarkable career.
