The Entry Lists for the CIAC Class Championship Meets are available at: CIAC Class MM Girls Championship CIAC Class MM Boys Championship LIVE RESULTS: https://live.nestiming.com/meets/48739 Boys Defending champions: Daniel Hand, Runners up: East Lyme Girls Defending champions: Hillhouse, Runners up: Mercy Boys Teams to Watch: Bethel, Daniel Hand, East Lyme, Lyman Hall Girls Teams to Watch: Avon, Hillhouse, Ledyard, Mercy Boys Events to watch: There will be no shortage of action on the track or in the field as several of last year’s champions return for their class meet finale. On the track, Bethel’s Luke Richardson returns as the favorite again in the 100m and 200m dashes bringing his CT#2 times as the top seed in each event with expected challenges from Watertown’s Eli Crofford. The distance events should be entertaining as well with East Lyme’s Sean McCauley back to defend his titles last year in the 1600m and 3200m but expect teammate Sam Leone and ECC rival Christian Menounos of Woodstock Academy attempt to dethrone him in the 1600m like he did in their conference meet. Leone will have to step up a few notches to challenge Thomas Conklin of Lyman Hall with his CT#1 seed time of 1:52.41. Conklin likes to come from behind so never count him out. It will be interesting to see if Daniel Hand’s 4x400m relay team can put up a lesser time than their current 3:18.68 that is best in the state this season and #7 all time in state history. In the prior open 400m heats Hand’s Lucas Nolte and Matthew Petersen should provide a preview as the top seeds under the 49-second mark. Fans should also attempt to step out of Veterans Stadium to view the throwing events across the stream where East Lyme’s Tom Matlock seeks to defend his titles in the discus and shot put with his CT#1 seed of 62-6.5 from the ECC meet. Stick around to also watch Rockville’s Thomas Bannon, who has improved almost 18 feet this year in the javelin, as he looks to improve on his #6 CT all time toss of 203-0 from earlier this season. If you remain in the stadium then look to the north end where Torrington’s Michael Ohoua will provide the highlights in the long and triple jumps as the top seed while Hamden’s Sean Arms looks to clear 15 feet again this season in the pole vault. Returning Defending Champion and Performances from last year 100m - Luke Richardson, Bethel - 10.70 200m - Luke Richardson, Bethel - 21.76 800m - Thomas Conklin, Lyman Hall - 1:56.69 1600m - Sean McCauley, East Lyme - 4:17.50 - meet record 3200m - Sean McCauley, East Lyme - 9:16.33 - meet record Discus Throw - Thomas Matlock, East Lyme - 159-02 Shot Put - Thomas Matlock, East Lyme - 59-01.50 - meet record Javelin Throw - Thomas Bannon, Rockville - 186-07 Long Jump - Micheal Ahoua, Torrington - 21-07.50 Girls Events to Watch With a powerhouse lineup, this year's sprinting events are packed with talent, and athletes determined to defend their titles. Hillhouse’s Destini Reid holds the top spot in the 100m as we enter this competition at 12.25, with Brookfeild’s Mackenzie Bray and Waterbury Career Academy’s Aaliyah Coleman on her heels, both seeded at 12.44. Brandford’s Djamilla Toukour takes the lead in the 200m just ahead of Reid, positioned at #2 (25.57) and Juliet Allard (Woodstock Academy) ranked third with a seeded time of 25.61. Exciting races are in store with minimal separation between the front runners of these events could determine Hillhouse’s chance to repeat as team champions. Mercy’s Sarah Roberts return as a dominant force across three distance events could well be their ticket for unseating Hillhouse and claim the top team honor. As last year’s 800m winner at 2:14.08, she is seeded this year at 2:10.44, and expected to bring strong performances in whichever events she toes the line. With a memorable tie last year between Abigail Van Hoof of Avon and Avery Maiese of Waterford (5:19.18) in the 1600m, Roberts is listed again to be top performer at 4:56.30, as well as in the 3200m at 10:47.74. Roberts is sure to be a prominent performer and name to be heard throughout the competition. Lourdes Lawson of Suffield is expected to take another number one spot in the discus, seeded at an impressive 120-4, after last year's winning throw of 114. Not only that, but Lawson is also predicted to dominate the shot put, last year's mark at 37-11.5, while currently seeded at 39-1. Not far behind however, is Woodstock Academy’s Avery Plouffe, who is entered at 38-2 and showing promising potential. In the field, Isabel D'Alleva-Bochain of Woodstock Academy took last year's javelin with a throw of 117-08, and is listed this year as #2 at 122-4. Her top competitor, Mallory Boney of East Haven, takes the current top seed at 126-9, and a great duel is expected to dominate this year’s javelin. Jordan Carr of Joel Barlow has established a gap between herself and competitors in the pole vault, currently seeded at 12-6, and is expected to clear astonishing heights at this competition. Carr has set her sights on Weston’s Emily Savage CT state record in the pole vault when she cleared a legendary 13-2.50 at New Englands in 2013. Carr has been chasing Savage’s meet record of 13-00 set back in 2013, and shows the talent and potential to do so. As seen during the Class M Indoor meet, frosh Kaylin Diglio of Guilford should challenge Carr again as each seek loftier heights. Last year's high jump brought a notable performance from Guilford’s Cassie Ward, who took the title clearing 5 feet. This year, fans can expect to see fierce competition from both Ayden Darvil of Suffeild who is listed as number one at 5-6, and Ferrari Jones of Avon close behind at 5-4. These two competitors will likely be raising the bar for one another as the event unfolds. With an abundance of potential and high anticipation, this year’s competition is shaping up to be an exciting moment where preparation meets pressure, and big shoes are waiting to be filled.
