There is a philosophical question that asks “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Or to put it in track terms “if a CT track athlete has a great performance and it doesn’t get recorded on MySportsResult did it happen?” We would rather not find out. While most CT athletes wrapped-up their season two weekends ago at either New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston or Nike Indoor Nationals in New York, a few athletes from the Constitution State made the trip south to Virginia to compete in the adidas Track Nationals in the Virginia Beach Sports Center this past weekend.

Previously, Zoe Eastman-Grossel had a strong weekend at New Balance Nationals Indoor running 25.15 for the 200m but must have felt she had more in the tank. The Lyme Old Lyme senior, who has committed to the Naval Academy, returned for another weekend of high level racing. She started off with the 400m finishing in the National Elite section with a time of 58.53 which was a PR, but was only the tip of the iceberg. The next day she qualified for the finals with a 25.28 in the 200m but that was just a warm up effort for her. In the finals she went under 25 seconds for the first time of her life, indoors or out, to take 5th in 24.91 to become a national medalist. Her time not only took over the state lead in 2025 but she also now has the 6th fastest time in CT history

Platt High School did well this season this season, but were mostly under the radar in the 4 x 200m. They were 5th in the Class L meet and just missed New Englands running 1:35.05 to take 8th at the Open. But the Panthers didn’t give up. They went to Boston the following weekend to run a 1:32.55 at the Rising Stars Classic which qualified them for adidas Nationals. Down in Virginia, the team of Brandon Candelora, Robert Millette, Ethan Walton, and Nduka-aku Nmegbu became one of six CT teams to set their school record this season when they ran 1:31.50 to place 9th in the National Elite Prelims. This makes them CT’s 7th fastest time for the 2025 season and the outdoor season looks bright for the boys from Meriden.

There is a reason we run the races and don’t just hand out awards based upon seeds. Charles Dalles was only 6th at the State Open in the 600m and barely made New Englands, but the junior from Coginchaug took advantage of the opportunity and won the 2nd fastest heat in a big PR of 1:21.95. That time held up and he became a surprise New England champion. He said after the race his main goal that day was to qualify for NBNI in the 400m which he did. At NBNI he ran 49.68 which cracked the top 20 fastest times in CT history. To prove that was no fluke, last Saturday he ran 49.72 to finish 6th to earn a medal in the Championship 400m.

Coginchaug girls, running as Go Far Track Club, had a huge season best in the 4x400m, finishing 16th in the National Elite section. The team of Kaelyn Connell, Estella Perez, Jane Waterman and Allison Booth finished in a season best of 4:15.84. This was a six second improvement over their season best in the Class S meet and would have placed them 2nd to qualify for the Open if they ran this time back in February. Both boys and girls’ teams set the Blue Devils 4x400m school records.

East Catholic’s 4x400m team of Kamora McGregor, Isabelle Carpenter, Eleanor Riley Larkin and Maya Fisher also dropped a season best of 4:19.84 to place 20th.

Coginchaug’s school record in the 1600m relay came at Yale Invitational but on Sunday were able to lower it significantly. Caleb General, Skyler Kaczor, Liam Ullman and Dalles finished 8th in the National Elite section with their time of 3:32.42 which dropped three seconds from their best at Yale.

While Bryanna Boroze hasn’t come close to her PR of 41-2.25 since before Christmas, she has still had a very successful season and has thrown between 37 to 39 feet the last eight straight meets. The East Hartford senior, who had committed to Chicago State University next year, finished 9th for the Hornets Throw Club with her throw of 38-11.25.

In national news, Bullis High of Maryland, fresh off their dominating performances at NBNI decided at the last minute to compete in the 4x200m. Bullis girls set a new National Record in the adidas Nationals prelims of 1:34.31. They returned for the finals and improved their mark to 1:34.26 to grab the win and a new national record. Meanwhile the boys team just missed Archbishop Carroll’s national record of 1:24.37 and ran 1:24.64 in the prelims which is the 2nd fastest time in the US all-time.
