Boys 1600m Sprint Medley Relay

Good things come to those who wait… and work and work. For the past two years, Lyman Hall boys have targeted Danbury’s state record of 3:28.36 in the sprint medley. Last year they were a little over two seconds off the record when they finished 5th at NBNI to earn All American. This year was much more competitive and the team of Aaron Rich, Owen Rich, Thomas Conklin, Timothy Conklin teamed up to not only break the state record, they and four other teams, went under the old meet record. State Open 600m champion Thomas Conklin battled for the lead almost his entire four lap leg in the 2nd fastest heat and eventually pulled away over the final 100m. He had a PR split of 1:52.67 to win the heat.

Visit the only site for the latest Connecticut High School State Records for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field at My Track and Field Records.

The New Britain team of Cory Bates II, Emmanuel Rivera, Ivan Suarez and Yendri Ruiz finished 17th in a time of 3:32.49 which is the 6th fastest time in state history. Newtown’s team of Danniel Teixeira, Bryce Maddox, Elias Brady and Soheib Dissa was 21st in 3:33.32, the 8th fastest time all time in CT. Dissa, the State Open champion in the 1000m, split a 1:53.24 for his 800m anchor leg.

Bullis of Maryland continued to dominate on the track, setting the national high school record with their time of 3:23.41 to grab the win.

Girls Championship Pentathlon

Much like the Lyman Hall boys, D’Asia Duncan will have to wait another year. The multi talented junior has had her sights set on Nicolette Chambers’ state record in the pentathlon of 3558 points. After an injury plagued season that still saw her make significant contributions to Bloomfield’s Class S and State Open titles, she finished 10th in the five event competition with 3347 points which is the 2nd best score all time in CT history.

Duncan started off the day running the seldom run 60m hurdles in 8.99 which is the 9th best time in state history. She jumped 5-1.0 in the high jump which was an indoor PR and threw the shot 27-9.25. The long jump was measured at 16-9.25 and while most multi athletes dread the 800m, the State Open runner-up in the 600m looked forward to it and ran 2:26.39. With one year to go in high school she has time to improve 211 points to claim the state record in 2026.

Boys 2-mile

Everyone has been talking about how fast all events in track and field have become and especially the distance events. In 2004 Gavin Coombs won the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in 9:13.08. Three years later future Olympian Donn Cabral did the same in a time of 9:10.56. Jump ahead to 2022 for the state record of 8:48.59 by Conard’s Gavin Sherry that was also a winning time at NBNI.

Fast forward a few years and we saw Owen Martin of Xavier break his school record and became the 6th fastest in state history finishing in 9:00.33 but finished 16th place overall. He ran brilliantly to blow his heat away over the last three laps, running 1:34.5 for the last 600m and 2:08.5 for the last 800m to improve his PR 12 seconds from two weeks ago at New Englands.

His in-state rival Sean McCauley of East Lyme also broke into the CT all time list by running 9:05.50 to take 19th overall. His time pushed CT distance legends Drew Thompson, Eric van der Els and Connor Rog back a spot and he was able to claim the ECC record.

There were also a pair of CT residents that compete in the NEPSTA for private schools that also should be mentioned. Nathan Lee, running for Brunswick School, ran the fastest time for CT in 2025 with his time of 8:57.16 to take 11th place and his teammate Teddy Hojlo, only a sophomore, ran 9:08.01 to take 26th.

Girls 400m

Lauren Kropo continued her outstanding season by finishing 13th in the prelims of the 400m, just missing finals by a half of a second. The junior finished 3rd in her heat with a time of 55.53, which makes her the 2nd fastest CT girl in state history with only Precious Holmes’ state record of 53.43 in front of her. The New England 600m champion still has one more year to break that 12 year-old record.

Boys Championship Long Jump Finals

Honors keep coming Michael Ahoua’s way this season. The Torrington senior has won 10 straight long jump competitions including the Millrose Games, State Open and broke the New England meet record. It took the national championship to finally find someone who can out leap him. The Raider went over 24 feet for the 4th time this season to take 2nd in 24-00.25.

Boys Championship Shot Put

It has been well documented that CT shot put has definitely risen to new levels the past few years. East Lyme’s Thomas Matlock and Chris Amy of Norwich Free Academy have been going back and forth consistently going over 60 feet while Simsbury’s Marshall Potter has also gone over the 60 foot mark but always seems to come up short. Keeping up the theme of “good things come to those who wait”, Potter popped out a big throw on the biggest stage, with all six throws going over 60 feet and setting a PR of 63-4.75 on his 4th throw to earn a podium spot with a 5th place medal. At the ThrowHawks meet last week he told MSR “good things are coming in the shot”. His throw moves him past Mel Taylor, who held the state record for 53 year, into #4 in CT history.

State Open champion Chris Amy made the finals but just missed a medal, finishing 7th with a toss of 62-08.75 while Tom Matlock was a little off, taking 14th place with a mark of 59-01.25.
