16 Apr 2002 I know that many will be saddened by Carl's death. He was too good a person and a coach to leave us this soon. It's ironic that Monday was also the day of the Boston Marathon. Like his athletes Carl was a fighter, passionate and ready to help. My thoughts go out to all those at Conard and to his family. Having lost a brother and a runner to cancer, and now Carl, I pray that a cure for this terrible disease is found soon. Sincerely, Mark H. Logan RHAM HS |
Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 When I was a freshman at Conard high school running for Coach Palazzotto, I was the slowest runner on the team. However, Coach P never stopped trying to instill a spirit of PMA in me. He always said that a positive mental attitude could get a person through anything, in running and in life. My junior year, at the state open (1999), right before they called us to the line, Coach P gathered the varsity team for a talk. I don't remember all of what he said to us, but I do recall one part of his speech that stuck with me through the whole race, as I was facing the toughest stretches of the Wickham Park course. "I can't run any more," he told us, "so you guys are my legs. I run through you." Coach Palazzotto's death does not make this any less true. We are still his legs, and he still runs through each of us. Schuyler Schuster Conard High Schoo Class of 2001 |
