Wolverine Boys Win Eighth Straight ECC Divisional Crown
Griswold — Jason Cusack won the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 7 seconds Tuesday and the Griswold High boys' cross country team placed four runners in the top five, clinching its eighth straight regular season divisional championship with a 19-40 win over Stonington in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division.
Erik Chester, Andrew Orum and Randy Evans finished third, fourth and fifth for the Wolverines (6-0, 4-0). Kevin Agnello was second for Stonington (5-2, 2-2).

Mike Berkowicz set a course record and Woodstock Academy took three of the top four spots to edge Ledyard 25-30 in the ECC Large Division. Berkowicz's time of 17:19 on the new 3.1 course broke the old mark of 18:02 set a week earlier by Fitch's Josh Porizky. Zach Eckard finished second and Tom Kacerik fourth for the Centaurs (5-2, 3-2) while Eric Bowles was third for Ledyard (3-3, 3-2).

Ryan King crossed the finish line in 20:59, but Tourtellotte lost to Putnam 15-50. Frank DiBonaventura was the top finisher for the Clippers (1-5, 1-5). John Brown finished second for Tourtellotte (0-4, 0-3).

Josh Porizky, Chris Chapman and Phil Williams finished in the top five and Fitch edged Waterford, 26-29, for its first win of the season in an ECC Large Division race. Fitch is 1-4, 1-4. Sam Alexander finished second overall and led Waterford, 1-6, 0-5.

Griswold's top three runners crossed the finish line in 24:19 and the Wolverines finished the regular season unbeaten with a 17-38 win over Stonington in the ECC Medium Division. Alyssa Wilczek, Janine Daily and Steph Slonski finished 1-2-3 for Griswold (6-0, 5-0). Molly Rathbun placed fourth for Stonington (2-4, 2-2).

Woodstock runners took three of the top five spots to defeat Ledyard 24-35 in the ECC Large Division. Kate Murphy (17:11) was the overall winner for the Centaurs (2-3, 2-3). Britta Kunkemoeller was the top finisher for the Colonels (1-5, 1-4).

Putnam's Shelbie Greene was the overall winner (18:33), but Tourtellote runners claimed seven of the top eight spots as Tourtellotte defeated Putnam 20-43. Haley Berry was the top finisher for Tourtellote (3-1, 2-1). Putnam is 0-5, 0-5.

Bacon Academy placed three runners in the top five and narrowly defeated Windham, 26-29, for its first win in the ECC Medium Division. Brittany Lane, Chelsea Ahmed and Lizzie Weinrich finished 2-3-4 for the Bobcats (2-3, 1-3). Marissa Sanders (22:13) won the race for the Whippets (2-4, 0-4).
