Norwich Free Academy's Jon-Paul Mandelburg set the
boys' cross country course record at Ledyard, but the Colonels
remained unbeaten with a 20-41 victory in the ECC Large Division.
Mandelburg completed the 3.1-mile course in 15 minutes, 39 seconds,
snapping the record of 16:04 set Sept. 17 by Ledyard's David
Holliday, who finished second Tuesday in 16:02. Holliday, Neil
Bajorin, Mike Scott and Kyle Sweet finished in the top five for the
Colonels (4-0, 4-0), who are a win away from an undefeated regular
season within the division. If the Colonels defeat Woodstock Academy
next week, they'll enter the ECC Championship race unbeaten in the
regular season. We're having a real good season,” Ledyard coach
Charlie Ewers said, “and we're looking forward to the meet with
Woodstock and Griswold next week.”
Sam Agnello covered 2.9 miles in 16:38 as Stonington (3-0, 3-0)
pulled out a 25-32 victory over Waterford in an ECC Medium Division
meet between previously undefeated teams. Matt Marinelli finished in
17:08 for the Lancers (4-1, 2-1), but Bennett Brissette and Kyle
Wheeler squeezed in ahead of the second Waterford runner.
Woodstock took the top eight spots, rolling to a 15-50 ECC Large
Division win over Killingly. Kevin Graham won the race, covering the
5,000 meters in 17:25. Rounding out the top five for the Centaurs
(2-2, 2-2) were Andrew Slesinski (17:52), Jeff Larrow (17:58),
Jamison McReynolds (18:03) and Joe Murray (18:07). Scott Harman was
the top finisher for the Redmen (1-4, 0-4), coming in ninth.
Windham won its first meet of the season, edging Plainfield, 27-28
in the ECC Medium Division. Tim Carey won the race in 17:29 for the
Whippets (1-4, 1-3), while Greg Ulkus and Anthony Mendes also
finished in the top five. Charlie Hansen, second overall, was the
top finisher for the Panthers (0-4, 0-3).
Mark Olivier won the race in 16:18, helping Fitch to wins over East
Lyme (17-45) and Montville (23-38). Sean Burbank and Matt Eyler
finished in the top five for the Falcons, 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the
ECC Large Division. Matt Warren, sixth overall, led the Vikings to a
23-36 win over Montville. East Lyme is 2-2 and 2-3. Matt Liebal and
Anson Moody were second and third respectively for Montville (2-3).
