ECC Cross country

  •  Meghan Owen outdueled Amy Hicks, but Woodstock Academy placed four runners in the top six to beat Killingly, 26-29, in an ECC Large Division girls' meet run at Fishers Island. Woodstock (2-2, 1-2) also beat Fishers Island, 15-50, while the Redgals (2-3, 0-3) beat the Vikings, 15-43. Owen won in 11:01, 31 seconds faster than Hicks (11:32). Alyson Dougherty was Fishers Island's top finisher in 16th-place.
  •  Brad Courtois, Eoin Wallace and Scott Harmon finished 1-2-3 for Killingly in a 19-47 boys' non-league victory over Fishers Island. Courtois won in 16:50 for the Redmen (1-4). Fishers Island also lost to Norwich Tech, 24-31. Brendon Conroy finished fourth overall to lead the Vikings while Tech's top finisher was Emmanuel Gomez in fifth place.

ECC Boys' cross country

  •  Brian Cull finished the 3.1-mile course in 17:39, leading Bacon Academy to a sweep of St. Bernard (23-34), Marianapolis Prep (19-45) and Fishers Island (19-42). Ryan Gauthier, Adam King and Mike Kilrain also finished in the top 10 for the Bobcats (5-3, 4-2). Ryan Gauthier, third overall, led the Saints to wins over Fishers Island (22-35) and Marianapolis (22-36). Tim Benway finished 10th overall for the Saints. John Turner led Marianapolis to a 26-31 win over Fishers Island. Randy Brothers paced Fishers Island with a seventh-place finish.
  •  Griswold's top five runners — Billy Preston, Mike Charron, Brian Leguerre, Gavin Coombs and Reynolds Chapman — all finished in 19:13 as the Wolverines (6-0, 6-0) cruised to an ECC Small Division sweep of Waterford (15-48) and Tourtellotte (15-49). Waterford (3-4, 3-3) defeated Tourtellotte, 24-35. The Tigers fell to 1-5, 1-5.
  •  The Williams School placed the first three runners and five of the top 10 as it swept a meet with Hyde-Woodstock and Cheshire Academy. Will Cox covered the 2.6-mile course in 16:36 for the Blues (4-0), who scored wins of 19-42 over Cheshire and 20-39 over Hyde.

ECC Girls' cross country

  • Abbey Sadowski led the way for Griswold, which posted an ECC Small Division sweep of Waterford and Tourtellotte. The Lancers (4-3, 3-2) beat Tourtellotte 15-50 to earn a split. Sadowski finished in at 16:29 for the Wolverines (6-0, 6-0), who won 15-50 over Tourtellotte and 23-35 over Waterford. Tourtellotte is 0-6 and 0-6.
  •  Bacon Academy remained unbeaten with wins over St. Bernard (27-28), Marianapolis Prep (15-50) and Fishers Island (15-50). Bethany Lepine won the race for the Bobcats in 21:36, while teammate Lylette Ozimek was third. Bacon is 8-0. Emily Bowdy, second overall, led St. Bernard to wins over Marianapolis (15-50) and Fishers Island (15-50). Dana Williams was fourth overall for the Saints. Allison Faucher, 15th overall, led the Golden Knights past Fishers Island, 21-35. Alyson Dougherty was Fishers Island's top finisher in 17th.

ECC Boys Results

  •  Fitch placed six of the top seven runners while collecting a 17-45 ECC Large Division victory over Killingly (0-4, 0-3). J.P. Gilbert, Sean Burbank and Mark Olivier all finished in 17:52 for the Falcons (4-1, 3-1).
  •  NFA's J.P. Mandelburg held off Craig Moore of East Lyme (2-2, 1-2), and the Wildcats (3-0, 2-1) went on to beat the Vikings 20-34 in an ECC Large Division meet at Mohegan Park. Mandelburg clocked in at 16:06 over 3.1 miles while Moore finished in 16:39. Colin Raunig, competing as an individual for New London, was third overall in 16:52.

ECC Girls Results

  •  Ledyard finished with six of the top 10 runners and defeated Woodstock Academy, 25-33, in the ECC Large Division. Woodstock's Amy Hicks was the individual winner in 16 minutes, 19 seconds, but Sophie Holly (second), Amanda Pezzullo (fourth), Chelsea Smith (fifth), Megan Kunkemoeller (sixth) and Heidi Stack (eighth) chipped in to give the Colonels (1-3, 1-2) to their first victory of the season. Woodstock is 0-2 in the ECC and in the Large Division.
  •  Erin O'Connell was the first runner across the line, but NFA (3-0, 3-0) placed the next eight on the way to a 20-43 victory over East Lyme (2-2, 1-2) in an ECC Large Division meet at Mohegan Park. O'Connell covered the 3.1-mile course in 20:20 while Mallory Keegan was the top NFA runner in 20:30.
  •  Meghan Owen of Killingly won in a romp, but Fitch (4-0, 3-0) had the next seven finishers while cruising to a 20-43 ECC Large Division victory. Owen covered the 4000-meter course in 14:46 for the Redgals (1-2, 0-2), while Betsy Boucher was second in 16:12.

Glastonbury and Simsbury both swept Weaver with a 15 - 50 score.
The meet was held at J.B.Williams Park in Glastonbury and is 2.75 miles.

ECC Boys Cross country ( By Day Staff Reports Published on 09/25/2001 )

  • Mark Brissette led a 1-2-3-4 finish by Stonington runners and broke his own course record as the Bears swept an ECC Small Division boys' meet from Montville (17-44) and Plainfield (15-50). Montville earned a split by beating the Panthers (22-34). Brissette's time of 15:49 bettered last year's record of 17:09 over the 5K course and four others were also under that time, teammates Sam Agnello (15:53), Max Freiert (16:48) and Will Agnello (16:50) and Montville's Matt Liebal (16:51). Charlie Hansen finished 10th for Plainfield (2-4, 2-4). Stonington is 5-1, 5-1 and Montville is 6-2, 4-2.
  • Brendan Atkins finished second overall in 17:03, helping Old Lyme to victories over Wheeler (25-30) and Valley Regional of Deep River (16-39) in a Shoreline Conference small schools meet. The Wildcats lost to Old Saybrook (26-29). Old Saybrook's Matt Termine was first in 16:56. Wheeler beat Valley Regional (15-50) but lost to Old Saybrook (27-28). Old Lyme's Matt Stark was sixth overall in 18:05, while Wheeler's Jeff Valentine was seventh in 18:11.
  • Steven Duncan and Emmanuel Gomez finished sixth and seventh overall as Norwich Tech went 2-1 during a quad-meet at Platt Tech in Milford. The Warriors (3-2) beat Platt Tech (23-34) and Bullard-Havens of Bridgeport (26-35), but lost to unbeaten Kaynor Tech of Waterbury (19-36).

  • Stonington's Stephanie Carmack was the individual winner, but Montville's Kayla Lathrop, Chesney McOmber and Katie Dobratz took the next three spots to lead the Indians to an ECC Small Division girls' sweep of the Bears (26-31) and Plainfield (20-36). Stonington beat the Panthers (20-40). Carmack's time of 21:03 broke the course record of 21:39 set a year ago by Bacon Academy's Karen Chimielcki. Montville improved to 5-2, 4-2, Stonington is 3-3, 3-3 and Plainfield, led by Nicole Ruffo's fifth-place finish, is 2-4, 2-4.
  • Emily Anderson raced over the 3.1-mile course at Goddard Park in East Greenwich, R.I. in 20:42 as Westerly picked up three victories in a Southern Division girls' quad meet. The Bulldogs (6-1) beat Coventry, Prout and Middletown.
