Viking Invitational

The East Lyme girls and Ledyard boys were victorious in the first Viking Invitational, an event featuring only freshmen and sophomores. East Lyme finished with 136 points to finish ahead of NFA (130), Ledyard (114) and Fitch (73). Ledyard won the boys' meet with 139 points to beat Fitch (110), Xavier of Middletown (110), East Lyme (87) and Woodstock Academy (56).
Girls' winners were: Fitch's distance medley relay team of Margo Ward, Kelsea Fortner, Blair Kauffmann and Betsy Boucher (13:13.14); Fitch's Sarah Latham in the javelin (96 feet, 9 inches); Ledyard's Katie Colella in the long jump (14-6); East Lyme's 4x100 relay team of Kim Updyke, Meghan Siebert, Courtney Gillian and Sara Anderson (54.7); Ledyard's co-ed 4x100 relay team of Natalie Ford, Suzie Krakowiak, Greg Kirchner and Nick Anderson (51.8); NFA's Ashley Gray in the 100 hurdles (18.1); East Lyme's Gillian in the 100 (13.3); NFA's Cassie Migoni in the discus (88-1); NFA's Mallory Keegan in the 1,600 (5:30.2); Ledyard's Colella in the high jump (4-6); East Lyme's Garynn Jackson in the shot put (31-11); Fitch's Jenna Christie in the triple jump (31-9); Ledyard's Stephanie Riding in the 300 hurdles (51.8); Ledyard's sprint medley relay team of Vicky Fagon, Krakowiak, Rachel Shuttleworth and Sophie Holley (4:37.3); NFA's Kathryn D'Auria in the 200 (27.5); and Ledyard's co-ed 4x400 relay team of Nicole Amezquito, Terry Frechette, Mike Blanchard and Ian Crandall (4:20.2). Fitch's Latham was named Best in Field and East Lyme's Gillian was named Best in Track.

Jessie Carabeau took first in the 400, as Woodstock (87) beat East Lyme (86) and Waterford (15). The Centaurs won the 4x100 and 4x800 relay races. 
Eric Griswold won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles for the Vikings. Waterford's Tim Flanagan finished first in the long jump.

ECC Results

Groton — Pat Berg won four events Tuesday, setting a school record in the discus, lifting the Fitch Senior High School boys' track team to a 115-35 win over Middletown.

Berg threw the discus 160 feet, 81/2 inches, breaking the record he set last season (157-10). He also won the shot put, javelin and triple jump.

Dante Ross won the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump for the Falcons (1-0), while Sean Berg won the 100 hurdles and pole vault and Mark Olivier won the 1,600 and tied teammate Sean Burbank in the 3,200.

In other ECC meets:

Montville went 2-0 with victories over Tourtellotte (103-42) and Killingly (101.5-48.5). Montville beat Tourtellotte (122.5-24.5).

Charles Hansen won the 1,600 and 3,200 as Plainfield edged Putnam, 74-73. Ricky Dickinson won the 300 hurdles for the Panthers (2-0), while Derek Martel won the 400, Nick Aubin won the 800 and Adam Goutnick won the shot put. Sean Jolie won the javelin and long jump for the Clippers (0-1).

ECC Results

Abbey Sadowski took first in the 800, 1,600, discus and long jump to power Griswold past Stonington, 107-27, in a season-opening meet. Kristin Rollins won the 100, 200 and 400 for the Wolverines. Kaitlin Gomes was first in the 300 hurdles for the Bears.

Stephanie Bergado won the shot put, discus and javelin to lead Fitch past Middletown, 83-67. Ashley Lowe took first in the long jump and triple jump for the Falcons (1-0).

Montville began the season by sweeping Tourtellotte (88-58) and Killingly (95-54). Tourtellotte edged Killingly (78-58).

Jacquie Corey and Sarah Langlois won two events apiece as Plainfield defeated Putnam, 104-22. Corey won the 100 and 200, while Langlois won the 800 and 1,600 for the Panthers (2-0). Jessica Dizazzo won the shot put for Putnam (0-1).
