Hammonassett Freshman
Invitational
Garynn Jackson won both the shot put (30 feet, 10 inches) and the discus (87-0) to pace East Lyme at the Hammonassett Freshman Invitational. Jackson also finished second in the javelin with a throw of 71-11. The East Lyme girls also got a first-place finish from the 4x800-meter relay team of Hannah Cole-Chu, Michelle Wong, Katy Leahy and Chelsea Hargis, who turned in a time of 11:32.3. Hargis was third in the 1,600 (6:07) and Leahy was fourth (6:22). Jennifer Krodel placed in the shot put (third, 28-7), discus (fifth, 63-9) and javelin (fourth, 65-0) and Alyshia Gay was fifth in the javlin in 59-7.
Matt Warren was the Vikings' top boys' finisher, second in the 800 meters in 2:17.1. Warren, Sean Law, Kevin Rector and Steve Mayott were fifth in the 4x800 in 10:33.9, C.J. Messina was third in the 300 hurdles in 51.7 and Law was fifth in the long jump (15-81/2) and tied for sixth in the high jump (4-10).
Ledyard also competed and Ian Crandall took first in the 800 meters in 2:17.3 and second in the 1,600 in 5:17.1. Tara Case was second in the 100 hurdles (19.4) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (56.7) while Terry Frechette placed sixth in the 1600 (6:31.9) and Suzie Krakowiak was fifth in the 100 (14.2). The 4x400 relay team of Case, Frechette, Nicole Amezquito and Sarah Fluet finished sixth (5:15.4). |
