107th Penn Relays
April 26-28, 2001 at Franklin Field, Philadelphia PA

The oldest and biggest track meet in the country. Although college and Olympic level
events are prominent, the high school events bring the majority of the thousands of
athletes to the Penn Relays. International flavor is provided by Jamaica, which sends
its best every year followed by a huge rooting section, and Ireland, which has owned
the boys DMR in recent years. Nearly 100,000 fans attend the 3 days of action, with
more than 40,000 jamming the old Franklin Field grandstands for the Saturday races.
It is officially called the Penn Relays Carnival, and a carnival atmosphere prevails
on the streets surrounding Franklin Field on the U. of Penn campus -- scores of
souvenir and food stands, with barbecue smoke filling the air and throngs of
sweatsuit clad athletes, fans and coaches filling the sidewalks.

Danbury girls set record
THE NEWS-TIMES
2001-04-28
PHILADELPHIA —
It was a record-setting day for the Danbury High girls track team at the Penn Relays.
The team of Stacey Egbert, Soule Golden, Emily Wolf and Heather Bourgault set the
school record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:09.45. The Hatters’ team placed
third in its heat. It was a great performance and a great atmosphere to do it in,
Danbury coach Kevin Wilcox said. It just doesn’t get any better.
The old record of 4:15 was set in a dual meet last year against New Canaan by a team
that included Golden and Wolf.
Also for Danbury at the Penn Relays, Egbert, Bourgault, Kelly Graham and Suzie Barb
ran the 4x100 relay in 52.65 seconds.
