Ridgefield girls win track title

WESTPORT - The Ridgefield High girls indoor track and field team captured the FCIAC Central Division championship Saturday, winning five out of seven running events, three of four relays and two out of four field events at the Staples Field House. Ridgefield scored 170 points and was 52 points ahead of runner-up Staples (118). Trumbull (73) was third, followed by Norwalk (50), and Brien McMahon (47). Harding did not score.

Ridgefield sophomore Emily Heaslip led the Tigers as a triple-winner, capturing the 300-meter title in a time of 43.7 seconds, the 600 in a time of 1:46.0, and then anchoring the winning 4x400 relay. Senior Rebecca Chain was a double-winner, finishing first in the 1,600 meters (5:40.7), and then coming back to win the 3,200 (12:06.6). Senior Caitlin Helgesen anchored the winning 4x800 relay, won the 1,000 meters (3:12.3), and finished second in the 1,600.

Sophomore Kristin Parry won the long jump and senior Sarah Nicklin won the pole vault. The Tigers will compete in the FCIAC Championships this coming Friday at Wilton.
