(May 20, 2007 - 10:00am  - By Ron Knapp)

At the Eastern Connecticut Conference Championships at East Lyme High School on Saturday May 19, 2007, both team champions had to contend with their conference competitors and less than optimal weather conditions to gain hard earned victories. The 2007 Indoor ECC and Class-L Champions East Lyme Girl's Team scored 172 points to defeat defending ECC champion Norwich Free Academy to earn the team title; NFA finished in the runner-up spot with 134.5 points. In the hunt for the Boys Team Championship, top honors were claimed by last year's winner Norwich Free Academy, as they amassed 146.5 points to outscore runner-up Ledyard with 122 points.

In the Girl's Championship competition, East Lyme received double event wins from Leah Clement in the 200m Dash (26.61) and the 400m Dash (58.59) along with Annie Scully in the 1600m Run (5:08.85) and 3200m Run (11:20.44). First place points were also garnered by Angela Anton in the 300m Hurdles (46.78); she was also second in the 100m Hurdles behind winner Julia Saccone of Ledyard (15.59). Christy Johnson and Anton scored a 1-2 finish in the Triple Jump with leaps of 34'9" and 34'5". The East Lyme 4x400m relay team also won first place honors with a 4:07.53 clocking while their 4x800m relay team was narrowly edged at the finish line by NFA, 9:50.25 to 9:50.26. Sharmaine Gregor scored a second place for East Lyme in the Shot Put behind winner Alex Barner of Woodstock Academy (35'5"). Colleen Dolan earned a second place in the 800m behind winner Shelby Donahue of Griswold (2:19.98). East Lyme also scored a 2-3 finish in the Pole Vault with Lauren Bennett and Sara Muldoon clearing 10' behind winner Jessica Sullivan who set a meet record of 10'6".

Other conference champions included Kaitlin Hodge of Fitch in the Discus Throw (112'4") and Amanda Nappi of Windham in the Javelin Throw (126'5").

The chase for the Boy's Team Championship between Norwich Free Academy and Ledyard was one of team depth across events versus event champions. NFA used their team depth to score in sixteen of eighteen events to defeat Ledyard, who won six events, led by triple winner Julian Stakey in the 100m (11.04), 200m (22.38), and the 400m (50.82). NFA was led by double event winner Caleb Homiski in the Shot Put (46'1")and Discus Throw (143') and their distance crew who earned 30 point in the 1600m and 3200m races.
